The Minneriya National Park’s scrub woodlands may be found halfway between Habarana and Polonnaruwa. The park, formerly a sanctuary for sambar deer, toque macaques, and leopards, is now a well-known tourist destination. This is because the greatest assembly of elephants in the world occurs on the beaches of Minneriya’s approximately 2000-year-old artificial lake. The dry season, which runs from July to October, is when this breathtaking spectacle takes place within the limits of Minneriya National Park. With approximately 300 elephants congregating every evening, it is hardly surprising that Lonely Planet named it as the sixth finest wildlife display in the world.
